Immortalized in the Homeland’s heart

Yesterday there was patriotically commemorated in Cabañas, Mariel, the 51st anniversary of the massacre of 22 youngsters, victims of Batista’s bloody dictatorship.

A mass pilgrimage marched to the mausoleum erected in honor to those martyrs. A group of students hoisted a huge Cuban flag and they placed wreaths of flowers with the name of each of the revolutionary martyrs in the monument. With 3-gun artillery salvo and the vibrant notes of the National Anthem there started the solemn activity.

Members from the national culture, local artists and art instructors participated in the soirée, together with other comrades who paid tribute to their compatriots, vilely murdered by the hired assassins of the regime.

This event which moved by its barbarism the entire Island and particularly those settlers of this locality is commemorated every November 20th.

Jose Manuel Galarde, combatant from July 26th Movement in the zone, evoked the events in those days and at the same time demanded the government of the United States to put an end to the blockade to Cuba and free the Cuban Five compatriots unjustly imprisoned in the empire.

The Municipal General Secretary of the Young Communist League, Damarys Laferte Valdes, took the floor on behalf the youth about the commitment they have with the continuity of the revolutionary process, and exhorted to keep on improving the function of the organization and focus its actions to contribute to the country’s development, salute the 9th Congress and never ever disappoint the loyalty to the Revolution’s principles.

There attended the activity, Antonio Ovidio Fernandez, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Isabel Horta Llanes, member of the Provincial Bureau of the Party, ® General Division Jose Morfa Gonzalez, President of the provincial of the Association of Combatant of the Cuban Revolution, relatives of the martyrs and other leaders of the territory.

The closing speech was in charge to Cristian Alvarez Rodriguez, member of the Party Bureau from Mariel, who referred about the sad chapter of our history with this terrible crime and expressed it is just comparable with the war policy and tortures performed just in the XXI century by the North American empire in Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries in the world.

He also mentioned, the overwhelming victory of Cuba in the United Nation Organization with the majority condemn of the international community to the blockade and he said the Cubans will continue fighting together with our youth in this battle of ideas inspired in the example of those young persons, marching towards a better world, rectifying our mistakes and building an impregnable bastion.

This Cabañas’ massacre will never be forgotten. These youngsters, immortalized, will live for ever in the heart of their Homeland.
